history
Nestled on 102 hectares of sunny limestone hills in the heart of the Fins Bois cru, Leyrat Cognac embodies the pure expression of its terroir. Produced exclusively from a single estate, each eau-de-vie is crafted with meticulous care, offering finesse, balance, and aromatic depth. Part of the Abécassis family estates – one of the leading independent producers in Cognac – Leyrat is internationally recognized, with numerous awards including Cognac Producer of the Year (IWSC, London). Featured on the menus of Michelin-starred restaurants, Leyrat has become a true reference for connoisseurs seeking authenticity and refinement.
Vineyard
The estate lies on chalky limestone soils at 154 meters of altitude, in Claix, at the heart of the Fins Bois cru. The terroir is composed equally of hard limestone from the Jurassic era and soft limestone from the Cretaceous. The vineyard is planted with 100% Ugni Blanc, with an average vine age of 43 years, ensuring aromatic finesse and consistency.
Winemaking
Fermentation takes place on site, with both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations carried out in thermoregulated stainless-steel tanks, using carefully selected local yeasts. Double distillation is conducted in small, traditional onion-shaped Charentais copper stills. The eaux-de-vie are then aged first in new oak barrels for 4 to 6 months, followed by many years in red and old Limousin oak casks, to achieve remarkable depth and harmony.
Tasting notes
Extra Glory displays a beautiful old gold color. The bouquet gradually reveals its complexity, with aromas of spice, licorice, cigar box, apricot, and grape. The palate is supple and rich, offering candied fruits and honey that intertwine in perfect balance for a long and elegant finish. 40%Vol.
Food pairing
This Cognac can be enjoyed neat to fully appreciate its depth, but also pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as spicy gambas, foie gras, caviar, or dark chocolate.
