history
Vignoble Gitton is a family-owned estate founded in 1945 by Marcel and Huguette Gitton with just half a hectare of vines. Over three generations, the domaine has grown to around 33 hectares across Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, and Coteaux du Giennois. Today, Pascal and Denise Gitton, together with their daughter Chanel, craft authentic, terroir-driven wines that highlight the diversity of Sancerre’s limestone and flint soils. Each parcel is vinified separately, reflecting the estate’s long-standing commitment to precision, tradition, and the pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc.
Vineyard
Located on the slopes below Sancerre in Ménétréol, the vineyard sits on a steep south-facing slope (30%) at an altitude of 210–235 meters. Planted on Sparnacian flint soils, the vines (Age of vines: 30 years old) benefit from excellent drainage and heat retention, enhancing ripeness while preserving freshness. This terroir brings pronounced minerality, tension, and precision, with vibrant acidity and a distinctive flinty character typical of great Sancerre wines.
Winemaking
Pneumatic pressing followed by cold settling of the juice. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts, preserving the wine’s purity and terroir expression. Aged 5 months in stainless steel tanks.
Tasting notes
Vibrant minerality and precise acidity frame notes of white peach and apricot, lifted by delicate floral hints of elderflower, a subtle touch of aniseed, and a refined saline finish.
