history
Located in the heart of Villié-Morgon, Domaine des Gaudets has been a family estate for four generations. Today, Christophe Sornay cultivates 12 hectares of vineyards, certified HVE (High Environmental Value) since 2019. Deeply committed to preserving biodiversity, he promotes grass cover between rows, enriches the soil with shredded vine shoots, and favors mechanical weeding whenever possible. The estate mainly produces the Morgon Cru (9 hectares), alongside Régnié, Beaujolais Rouge, Blanc, Rosé, and a Crémant de Bourgogne.
Vineyard
The vines, aged around 60 years, are planted in schist and alluvial soils with an eastern exposure ensuring optimal sunlight in the morning. The vineyard has a density of 9,000 vines per hectare and is trained in the traditional goblet system. The estate practices sustainable viticulture under HVE level 3 certification.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested, with 50% destemming. The maceration lasts 12 to 14 days with punch-downs and rack-and-return to enhance color and tannin extraction. The wine undergoes a semi-carbonic maceration, with temperature control between 28 and 30°C. It is then aged in stainless steel tanks for 6 months before bottling.
Tasting notes
This Morgon reveals aromas of fresh red fruits, combining finesse with well-integrated tannins. Elegant and balanced, it can be enjoyed young for its fruit-forward character or after 4 to 5 years of aging for greater complexity.
Food pairing
Perfect with red meats, poultry, and a variety of cheeses. Serve at 14–16°C to fully appreciate its freshness and structure.
Aging potential
4 to 5 years.

2022
The 2022 Morgon Vieilles Vignes has a perfumed, floral bouquet with better delineation and freshness than the Régnié. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit, quite light on its feet thanks to the line of acidity. Though I would like more complexity on the finish, this should age nicely in bottle.
