Domaine Chante Cigale, established in 1874 by Hyppolite Jourdan, is a historic family-owned estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Initially named "Clos Chante Cigale," it was renamed in 1936 when Châteauneuf-du-Pape became France's first AOC. Today, under the leadership of Alexandre Favier, the estate spans over 40 hectares across 45 parcels within the appellation. This diversity of soils and grape varieties enables the production of unique wines. Favier and his team oversee each step of the winemaking process, ensuring the preservation of the estate's spirit and tradition.
Vineyard
The estate is located in a very stony part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area, where you can find the famous "galets roulés" (rolled pebbles). A large part of the vineyard is on the famous plateau de Cabrières, near to Château Montredon. Rolled pebbles (limestone). Selection of the oldest vines on the plateau de Cabrières. Over 65 years old : 5 Ha / 1500 cases . Yield : Less than 35Hl/Ha - 2 T /acre.
Winemaking
Manual grape harvest with selective sorting. Long fermentation for 18 to 24 days. Vinified grape by grape. Maceration for 32 to 36 days. Malolactic fermentation and ageing of 22 months in oak tuns (40%), new small oak barrels (30%) and concrete vats (30%).
Tasting notes
This wine highlights the effect of the "galets roulés" on old Châteauneuf vines. It has a deep color and a very pronounced body, balanced by the roundness of the Grenache. A lingering finish.
Food pairing
Red meats grilled or "en sauce" spicy meat dishes, barbecues, venison, duck pâté, steak au poivre.
Aging potential
15 to 20 years.

A big, gusty style, with a chewy mix of black cherry, steeped plum, iron and earth. Smocky and full, showing lavender notes and a cooling blast of menthol and herbs alongside charred alder. Grippy tannins hold firm for the substantial finish, which still needs time to unwid. Grenache, Syrah and Mouvèdre. Best from 2026 through 2033. 200 cases made, 35 cases imported.
